The RXTE All-Sky Monitor has measured X-ray outbursts from 5 BL Lac objects and a few emission-line AGNs, and these alerts are generally followed by a series of RXTE pointed observations. These data provide valuable alert services for ground-based and other space-borne instruments. The data also provide measures of variability timescales and support for the construction of spectral energy distributions. A few programmatic details are noted that may be of interest to the multifrequency community. Wide-angle X-ray coverage will see significant short-term gains with the launch of Swift. However, the long-term instrumentation outlook is sparse and filled with uncertainty.
