We review the problem of X-ray emission from features in radio jets. We classify the current sample on the basis of their morphology and spectral energy distribution, thereby attempting to group them by their likely emission process. We include the possibility of bulk relativistic motion and present our formulation of the 'beaming model' which is based on the conventional equipartition between the energy densities of the magnetic field and that in the relativistic particles. Our discussion ends with an evaluation of some of the possibilities to resolve the conflicting evidence for synchrotron and inverse Compton models.
