Recent observations with the Chandra satellite have revealed more than 40 X- ray point sources in the W3 massive star formation complex. The data were obtained during two observing sessions separated by about a month. Many, if not all, the sources are variable X-ray emitters. X-ray point sources are coincident with the radio peaks of W3A, D, and H; they may be the ionizing sources of these compact HII regions. No X-ray sources were detected toward the most compact radio and submillimeter components. The nature of the new X-ray sources will be discussed and their implications for massive star formation will be explored.
