Wolf-Rayet Stars: X Rays, Wolf-Rayet Stars: Stellar Winds

Scientific paper

The authors investigate the relationship between X-ray and stellar wind properties for a sample of 61 (putatively) single WN-type Wolf-Rayet (W-R) stars. X-ray luminosities are derived from the ROSAT PSPC survey of the W-R stars compiled by Pollock et al. (1995), while stellar parameters are gathered from detailed spectral analyses recently performed by Hamann et al. (1995). The authors find no evidence for any obvious correlation, e.g. a proportionality between X-ray and bolometric luminosity as known from corresponding studies of O-type stars or a dependence of the X-ray emission on the "wind momentum" as expected from the radiation-driven wind theory.
