M31* is the next nearest SMBH after Sgr A*, and in some ways may be superior to Sgr A* as a tool to understand accretion in quiescent SMBH. We report on Chandra HRC imaging which resolves the 4 arc-sec Bondi radius, and shows variable X-ray emission at the location of M31* and also at the location of the brightest part of the double nucleus, P1. The most rapid X-ray variability we detect from M31* occurs on a 50ks timescale, which (scaled for the 30x higher mass) is commensurate with the most rapid variability seen from Sgr A*. The results of simultaneous VLA monitoring will also be presented.
