We present X-ray and optical spectra of two candidate "naked" Seyfert 2 galaxies, Mrk 609 and Mrk 883. These are AGN that appear to lack optical broad-emission lines but show no signs of significant obscuration in X-rays. Do these AGN truly lack a broad-line region, or is there some other plausible explanation, such as strong variability between the optical and X-ray observations? Most AGN claimed to be naked Seyfert 2s have low accretion rates, which might explain the lack of broad lines, but these two have luminosities typical of Seyfert galaxies. Thus, they are ideal candidates for testing the unified model, which posits that the only difference between Seyfert 1 and 2 galaxies is viewing angle with respect to an obscuring torus.
