Cases of the sporadic winter anomaly (WA) in the nighttime D-region are examined on the basis of VLF sounding at a latitude of 44.5 deg N. It is shown that an increase in electron density during disturbances is accompanied by a leveling of temperature at heights of 65-75 km. It is noted that the WA may be connected with the cellular structure of large-scale circulation.
