In the magnetospheric model for the clouds around radio galaxies, wind instability should have a lower critical velocity than Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and a characteristic scale describing the most rapidly growing surface waves should be singled out. One thereby can evaluate the ratio of the cloud plasma density to the density in the circumfluent intergalactic medium.
