The linear relationship found between the width of the Mg II k line and the luminosity of late-type stars is shown to be valid over a range of 17 mag in luminosity. Results suggest that this relationship may also be valid in the region of red dwarfs. It is noted that this width-luminosity relationship can be extended into the region of stars of low luminosity for other chromospheric lines.
