Constraints on the properties of local dark matter are investigated on the basis of the distribution of wide binary separations by analyzing a volume-selected binary catalog. A list of candidate wide binaries from a search of main-sequence stars with M(V) not greater than 9 in the Woolley catalog is presented. Nine pairs that are likely to be bound are identified. It is inferred that about 3 percent of the stars with M(V) in the 5-9 range are members of wide binary systems with separations in the range of 0.01-1 pc. The implications of this candidate list are considered. A phenomenological broken power-law model is used to analyze the separation distribution of the nine candidate pairs. It is estimated that at least 60 such wide pairs would be needed to conclusively establish the existence of a separation cutoff for wide binaries and that about 60 pairs of similar absolute magnitude would be found in a volume-limited astrometric data set with a limiting parallax of about 0.02 arcsec and a limiting apparent magnitude of about 12.5.
