White dwarf luminosity functions are calculated with simple models of Galactic evolution and compared with the results of Winget et al. (1987). It is shown how the shape and the sudden decline at the lowest luminosities varies with several input parameters and assumptions. The position of the observed sudden decline which was used for the age determination of the Galactic disk depends most sensitively on the white dwarf cooling theory. Considering the existing uncertainties in the different cooling calculations, the age of the Galactic disk ranges between about 6 and 14 Gyr.
