While the establishment of the observatory of the Berlin Academy, founded in 1700, was delayed until 1711, and even then comprised instruments which were not up to the contemporary international standard, J.J. Marinoni in Vienna constructed an observatory with numerous instruments which were qualitatively important. This contribution describes the observatory that was scarcely noted in research until today.
