My comments are prompted by a seeminglyinnocuous Eos meeting report on theJet Propulsion Laboratory's (JPL) Small BodiesEducator Conference (Eos, 87 (8), 2006).While I applaud the efforts that JPL and othersgo to in order to train educators and toeducate the general public on advances inEarth and space science, I nonetheless takeissue with the idea that, as it was reportededucators were told, ``what we call somethingis not really important.'' This is anentirely specious claim, and I find it disturbingthat such a perspective should ever findgeneral acceptance.
