The comparison of precise measurements and calculations of the muon anomalous magnetic moment provides a stringent test of the Standard Model. In this article, I review the basic components of the measurements and calculations that gave rise to a 2.6 σ discrepancy in February of 2001. I then discuss how the discrepancy has been reduced by correcting a sign error in previous calculations of the hadronic light-by-light scattering diagrams.
