I will highlight and discuss some of the studies of the stellar population in
the Galaxy that will become possible with or will greatly advantage of the
capability of a Wide Field of view X-ray Telescope (WFXT) mission. This mission
concept, that was been around for more than 15 years, recently has been
re-proposed with renovated interest as part of the US Decadal Astronomy Survey.
