Sunspot Numbers: Numerical Methods, Solar Activity: Periods

Scientific paper

The principle of singularity of signals using wavelet transform is discussed. The yearly mean sunspot numbers during 1700 - 1993 are analyzed by wavelet transform. The singularity of sunspot activity is precisely determined. The periods of solar activity are found using the wavelet transforms at scales 22 and 23. The results show that wavelet transform is a better method in finding sunspot periodicity than classical procedures.
