A wavefront error separation method has been developed for optical testing of an aspherical primary mirror in laboratory conditions when additional compensating optics, a potential source of error, is needed. The method is based on an interferometric test which measures the wavefront aberrations of the whole optical system. Two interferograms are required. The second interferogram is recorded when one of the optical components is rotated around the optical axis into another angular position. Additional information about the radial behavior of the wavefront of one of the components along a certain radius is also needed.
