Water cooled garments have found a variety of applications in aerospace and industrial settings since 1962 and the pertinent literature is widely scattered. This review includes a brief look at human thermoregulation followed by a history of water cooled garment (WCG) development and a description of current suits in the U.S. and U.K. Discussion includes variables affecting WCG design and operation, the development of automatic cooling control, and possible uses for regional cooling.
