Optical spectra are presented for a sample of 563 high latitude IRAS sources exhibiting relatively warm 25-60 micron colors, with a view to the efficient identification of Seyfert galaxies. Spectroscopic data are obtained on 358 extragalactic objects. The present census is consistent with an obscuration scheme for producing both types of Seyfert object from a single parent population, although the origin of excess cool IR radiation from many Seyferts remains unclear.
