Scientific paper

Observations in the modified Stromgren system of the Cepheids VY Carinae
and S Normae with their associated early-type stars are discussed. The
luminosities of the Cepheids, together with the bright giants R Puppis,
HR 2834, HR 4180, and HDE 269953 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC),
are used for calibration of photometric luminosities.
