The observations of Voyager I and II of Jupiter and its satellites are examined with emphasis on the geological surface of Ganymede and Io. Various photographs of Io, selected from the 171 total photographs taken of the satellite, depict a ring-shaped albedo feature that changed its appearance in the time between the two Voyager flybys; the feature is associated with a volcanic plume. Attention is given to the radiation dosage that surrounds Jupiter which is found to produce a torrent of electricity, 400,000 volts and 5,000,000-amp current of electrons and ions. The auroras in Jupiter's polar regions are thought to be composed of ions and electrons cascading into the atmosphere along magnetic fields linked to the plasma torus of Io.
