Models of the structure of 12 compact radio sources with declinations greater than 70 deg are presented, based on VLBI measurements at 5 GHz. At least 7 of these sources are BL Lac objects and 6 of them contain more than 75% of their total flux density at 5 GHz in a region smaller than about 5 milliarcsec. These sources may also be used to establish an almost absolute reference frame.
