The present paper discusses the radio morphological properties of a sample of 72 B2 quasars on the basis of VLA observations at 5 GHz. A large variety of structures has been found; a high percentage of triple sources (17/44) shows strong misalignment between the axes joining the core and the outer two components. There exists a relation between this misalignment and the angular size of the sources, the more distorted sources being the smaller. The results suggest that the distortions are mainly present in weaker, intrinsically smaller sources, perhaps because they are more easily confined by the ambient medium. No differences between B2 and 3C sources are found for distortions inside the lobes; rotational and mirror symmetries are found in the same proportions in both samples. The jet detection rate in the B2 sample is about 25 percent and the jet morphologies are similar to those found in powerful radio sources. Finally, a statistical study of the arm length ratios of the outer components reveals that the extended structures generally are very symmetric.
