A set of computer programs, VIRIS, which has been developed to aid in the reduction of IUE spectroscopic data is described. Various methods of filtering and smoothing the IUE data are discussed, and spectral rectification routines are described. Routines which automatically locate and store the positions of absorption lines are described, as are routines which can be used to assist in the determination of IUE wavelength-scale errors. The merits of the VIRIS system are discussed, and other packages are reviewed.
