A theoretical formula analogous to the classical virial theorem is developed in general relativity. It depends on quantities defined as kinetic energy, gravitational energy, and inertial momentum. We test our formalism by an attempt to recover known results for global stability of spheres of perfect fluids. There is not limitation on the strength of the gravitational field but only on the perturbation of the equilibrium of the fluid.
