The line series CH3CN ν8 = 16k-5k is observed toward Sgr B2(N) and Sgr B2(M) with hybrid - C configurations of the 9-element BIMA array. The emission is detected only in a 10″times;14″region of Sgr B2(N) corresponding to 0.41 pc×5.58 pc at a distance of 8.5 kpc. No emission of flux densities higher than rms noise is detected toward Sgr B2(M). The vibrational excitation temperature could be roughly estimated as 300K. The excitation mechanism of the line series and the differences between Sgr B2(N) and Sgr B2(M) are discussed.
