IR and Raman spectra of silicates that contain isolated 3-membered (Ca3[Si3O9] and Sr3[Si3O9]), 4-membered (Pb8[Si4O12]O4), 6-membered (Na4Ca4[Si6O18] and Na6Ca3[Si6O18]) and 12-membered (Na16Ca4[Si12O36]) rings in their structure are presented. The bands corresponding to individual ring vibrations have been assigned. The number of members in the silicooxygen rings leads to changes in the shape and the positions of the bands originating from Si-O vibrational modes in the spectra. The influence of the cations outside the ring on the spectra has been analyzed as well. Experimental IR spectra have been compared with the appropriate hypothetical ones (H6[Si3O9], H8[Si4O12], H12[Si6O18]) calculated using semi-empirical molecular orbital method (PM3). This allowed to confirm the band assignments given by the present authors in their previous work (1).
