We investigate the vibrational kinetics of molecular nitrogen in the polar thermosphere according to one-dimensional non-steady set-up. The role of TV, VV, VV(prime)-processess and auroral and thermal electron excitation is evaluated in the altitude range 100 to 200 km. The influence of vibrationally excited molecular nitrogen on thermospheric composition during beam-plamsa instabilities discussed.
