The high energy gamma ray emission from Cygnus X3 has been studied by measuring the arrival directions of small air showers (Eo of about 3 x 10 to the 13th eV) at mountain altitude. The analysis of 1.8 x 10 to the 5th showers within 5 degrees from the source indicates a periodic component (P approximately 4.8 h) at a 99 percent confidence level. A peak (2.8 s.d.) observed at phase 0.60-0.65 conicides with the maximum of the X-ray emission, and the corresponding flux is s = 4.2 + or - 1.5 x 10 to the -12th ph per sq cm s. A preliminary analysis indicates a 34.1 d phase and amplitude modulation.
