Scientific paper

Petviashvili and Pushkova (1979) have proposed a method of determining the vertical drift and the effective electric field in the nighttime ionosphere from vertical sounding data. In the present paper, this method is applied to the determination of vertical drifts under daytime conditions during the large substorm of February 24, 1970 on the basis of data on incoherent radio-wave scattering at the Millstone Hill Observatory.
