Radiation fluxes calculated by a model using three different radiation schemes are compared with values derived from simultaneous measurements of TIROS-N and Nimbus-7. Zonal averages of 10-day means of the planetary radiation budget and its components are considered. Albedo agrees within 10%, but large differences occur for cloud cover in the intertropical convergence zone. Comparison of two models shows significant weaknesses of cloud estimates.
