The Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi mission has provided a precise measurement of the primary Cosmic Ray e- + e+ spectrum up to 1 TeV. The basic instrument performance, its capabilities as an electron telescope and the details of the analysis underlying the measurement have been described in several papers. We report here on a consistency check that we made aiming for the best possible detector energy response. By selecting events with long path length in the instrument, we achieved an energy resolution better than 5% (68% containment, corresponding to 1 sigma for a gaussian distribution)over the whole energy range of interest. The limited size of the remaining data sample introduces significant additional complications in the analysis, resulting in larger systematic errors. The resulting spectrum is consistent with the one previously reported by the collaboration.
