Considering the behavior of the velocity components of the nearby stars
studied by de Freitas (1980 and 1982), and using the same population and
stratifications, the orientations of the velocity ellipses in the
Galactic plane are studied. The variations seem to be due to local
effects rather than to peculiarities related to age or spectral type.
