A new method for the detection of circular objects in images is presented. A new transformation, the Vector Gradient Intersection Transformation (VGIT), is used to determine the centres of circular objects. It is based on the principle that imaginary lines, defined by the gradient vectors at a circle's boundary, all intersect in its centre. This easily allows one to determine the centres of (even partial) circles. The complexity of the implemented algorithm is of the order of O(N\cdot√{N}). The radius of a circle can easily be found in a second stage.
