Observed DR variations in UT at the earth's surface are compared with calculated values of such variations for five typical geomagnetic disturbances produced by high-velocity solar-wind fluxes. A satisfactory agreement between observations and calculations was found. It is found that the characteristic time of the dispersal of the ring current is 10-15 hours. It is also determined that the ring-current region is supplied with fresh plasma during the restoration phase.
