A non-linear method for inverting oceanic acoustic tomography data is presented. The algorithm takes into account the quadratic term of the travel time expansion in the powers of the reciprocal sound speed perturbations. The method is tested within a 3D variational inversion scheme by means of twin data experiments and against the real data acquired in the Kuroshio Extension region.
