It is shown that data on ion composition can be used to increase the accuracy of determinations of certain aeronomic parameters of the upper atmosphere (e.g., temperature, composition, and photochemical constants). The approach proposed here is based on the use of the invariant profile X in the region of ionization-recombination equilibrium derived from mass spectrometry measurements of the relative oxygen ion composition. It is shown that during the period from the equinox to summer, the ratio of atomic oxygen to N2 can change by a factor of 3-5 at a height of 120 km.
