We present new discoveries of variable stars near the turnoff of the old (4-5 Gyr) open cluster NGC 7142. Contrary to previous studies, we detect eight contact or near contact eclipsing binaries (including three near the cluster turnoff), and most of these have good probability of being cluster members. We also identified one long-period variable, and four new detached eclipsing binaries.
We analyze extensive BVRCIC photometry and radial velocity measurements for the only previously known variable, V375 Cep. We identify it as a detached eclipsing double-lined spectroscopic binary and a cluster member. We model the properties of its components and examine its usefulness as a constraint on the cluster's age.
