Forty-two new variables have been discovered in the field surrounding the globular cluster NGC 6304. Periods have been determined for 40 RR Lyrae stars in the field. The period-frequency histogram is similar to that for the RR Lyrae variables in Baade's 'window' around NGC 6522 and is consistent with the interpretation that the stars are only mildly metal deficient. The space distribution of the RR Lyrae stars is apparently different from that of the system of globular clusters, thereby suggesting a different dynamical history for these stars.
