The work performed on the identification of the variable stars for the photometric calibration of the Hipparcos satellite data is reported. Investigations to assess the accuracy on measurements of variable stars, which can be expected at the end of the 2.5 year mission, are undertaken. The observation and classification of the variable stars, as well as the magnitudes used in the simulations, are included. The prediction of the light curve of a variable star and the construction of final ephemerides are discussed.
