Meteorological effects on the electron-concentration (EC) variability in the D-region are examined, and it is shown that, in the winter from day to day, this variability is probably connected with variations of NO concentration. The following channel of meteorological influence is suggested: the generation of internal gravity waves in the troposphere, their interaction with the zonal wind in the stratosphere, dissipation of the gravity wave energy a heights of 80-110 km, the intensification of turbulence, an increase in NO concentration, and finally an increase in EC in the D-region. Data supporting this hypothesis are presented.
