In the framework of the ENVISAT Stratospheric Aircraft and Balloon Campaign (ESABC), performed from Kiruna, 67N, Sweden, during January 2003, one balloon flight of the ELHYSA payload has been performed, together with an ozone sounding. The main objective of the ELHYSA flight was to validate the stratospheric water vapour products from GOMOS and MIPAS instruments onboard the ENVISAT platform. Additionally the data from a flight of the ELHYSA payload performed on 6 December 2002, in the framework of the European program CIPA are also available for the validation. The water vapour products from GOMOS show large uncertainties, for the moment, and the water vapour products from MIPAS are not available currently. However the ozone and air temperature data from GOMOS look reliable when choosing the suitable star occultation. More comparisons are needed for general conclusions.
