The Sodium Exposure Test Cell (SETC) is a quick, low cost test, devised by JPL, to measure the key electrode parameters for an Alkali Metal Thermal to Electric Converter (AMTEC) electrode. One issue of the validity of the SETC is that the sodium flow geometry in a SETC is not the same as the sodium flow geometry in an AMTEC cell. The present work demonstrates experimentally that the apparent charge transfer resistance, a key measure of electrode performance, is the same in both radial flow (as in an AMTEC cell) and axial flow (as in a standard SETC) geometries. .
