An upgrade of the MM5 Mesoscale Model of Pennsylvania State University - National Center for Atmosphere Research (PSU-NCAR) Version 5, developed by [1], for the Martian atmosphere is presented. Major changes are the higher resolution (from 5° to 1°) achieved by changing the topography archive and the associated land use using NASA's Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) data. The model is applied to a region across the equator, using as input data both Mars Climate Database (MCD) and MGS. In particular we took atmospheric records (such as winds and temperature profiles) from MCD and surface characteristics (e.g. surface albedo, thermal inertia and altimetry) from MGS. The final validation is performed comparing MGSTES (Thermal Emission Spectrometer) and MM5 temperature profiles relative to 1st June 2006.
