Gravity in more than four dimensions may involve terms of higher order in the curvature, as well as the linear terms present in ordinary general relativity. I explore the ten-dimensional vacuum configuration M4×S6. The ten-dimensional spherically symmetric potential is examined, and I determine conditions under which the formation of black holes is forbidden. Consequences for the stability of the vacuum are discussed.
