In Be star binaries with a compact object, the X-ray emission from the compact object forms an ionized sphere around itself. The line emission from this ionized sphere moves across the Be star emission line profile during the orbital motion of the compact object, leading to a variation of the ratio of intensities of the "Violet" and "Red" components of the line profile.
