In 1971 the variable V 1057 Cygni, which displays an H alpha line, changed from a T Tauri type variable of magnitude 16 to a type B3 star of magnitude 10. A filamentary nebulosity covering 3 arcmin also formed, and a historical search revealed that the increase in magnitude occurred over a 430 day period. The magnitude declined to 11.4 over the next 9 yr. The filament is calculated to extend outward 80,000 AU in a cone with an aperture of 55,000 AU, with the apex at the north pole of the object. The evolution of the spectral signatures is traced, as is the formation of three envelopes ejected from the eruption; expansions are proceeding at rates of 105, 210, and 310 km/sec. IR and radio observations of the star are reviewed, noting that an OH cloud has been fixed at 200 AU. Two other objects, FU Orionis and V 1515 Cyg, which have displayed the same behavior, are discussed, along with another candidate, IC 5146, also in the constellation Cygnus.
