We propose to use the FOS to secure the first ultraviolet spectra of a small sample of carefully selected WC stars in M33. These UV data, complemented by our optical spectra, will be analysed using state-of-the-art NLTE model atmosphere codes, to provide quantitative measurements of their physical, chemical and mass loss properties, for comparison with WC counterparts in the Galaxy and Magellanic Clouds. The acquisition and analysis of our planned FOS spectra will provide: (i) the first UV spectral morphological comparison of WC stars in M33 with counterparts in the Galaxy and LMC, (ii)the first quantitative measurements of the physical, chemical and mass properties of WR stars beyond the Magellanic Clouds, (iii) a quantitative test of the identification from our optical spectra of a real physical relation between WC wind velocity and galactocentric distance (and possibly metallicity) in M33, (iv) a detailed comparative analysis with the Galaxy and LMC WC stars which should shed light on the reasons for gross WR population differences in different local group galaxies and overall massive stellar evolution.
