The development of creative abilities of high school students can be achieved by introducing into the theaching process some techniques for active learning of physics. Among these the hypothesis metod is of special value. It involves both mastering some basic ideas concerning the hypothesis in science and developing particular skills for applying this knowledge in the students' cognitive activity. For the students to master the method of hypothesis the most important thing is to develop the students' skills to independently advance and verify hypotheses. These skills are based on conclusions derived from the previously known facts, laws and theories by deductive extropolation, and by extending these laws and theories to new phenomena and facts. The logical sequence can be represented as follows: A problem situation--advancement of hypothesis --substantiation of the hypothesis---experimental proof of the hypothesis. The paper contains a few examples showing the logic and mechanism of incorporating this method into the presentation and explanation of a new topic.
