We describe a method that uses ANITA to constrain the ultra high energy ( E n > 3 × 10^18 eV) neutrino-nucleon inelastic cross-section, s nN . Unlike previous constraints, this method does not require strong assumptions on the normalization of neutrino energy spectrum. The central idea takes advantage of two strikingly different ice formations in Antarctica - thick ice sheet on rock and thin ice shelf floating on sea water. The rates for detection of neutrino- induced showers originated in the two ice formations have different dependence on s nN , which thereby provides opportunity for determining or constraining s nN , depending on high or low statistics achieved. The first flight of ANITA detected no neutrino, and thus our method relies on an assumption of GZK neutrinos flux. Assuming that GZK neutrinos exist at ESS flux, our method for setting limits on s nN gives the following results for 90% C. L.: [Special characters omitted.] in scenario that new physics enhances both neutral-current and charged-current interaction cross sections. In the equations, s sm ( E n ) is total neutrino-nucleon cross section derived from standard model. The integral limit on s nN over the energy range of ANITA is [Special characters omitted.] If new physics enhances only neutral-current interaction cross section, [Special characters omitted.] , the differential limits derived from our method are [Special characters omitted.] and the integral limit over the energy regime of ANITA is [Special characters omitted.] Assuming new physics enhances total neutrino cross section via black hole production, our method sets lower bound to the 4 + n dimensional Planck scale M D as: [Special characters omitted.] in scenario of extra dimension number n = 6 and the minimum black hole mass [Special characters omitted.] = M D .
